Molossia (moe-laahss-eeyah)
It was 1977 when two boys, one being Kevin Baugh, decided that they wanted to create their own country. It was just for fun! So began a new country which most of us have never heard of. The Republic of Molossia began as the two young boys drew a map of the back yard. They created their own flag to fly over their country. What is a country without money? They created paper money for the newly founded republic. It was in fun, kids dreaming, playing enjoying themselves in a make believe world. Today Kevin Baugh continues his micro-nation the same way it began—just for fun! The kingdom of Molossia is set on 1.3 acres in the Nevada desert. He assures people that he still pays his US taxes, which he calls “foreign aid.” Kevin is the Head of State, Minister of Foreign affairs, Minister of War and Navy as well as “Minister of pretty much everything else.” He goes on and admits that everything is always tongue-in-cheek.” Why do all of this; “I’m doing this for the pleasure and enjoyment of having mine own country
It is obvious that most if not all of us will create our own nation. However, we all need to stop and think about the reality that we all have a kingdom of the heart where each of us will decide who will rule. The apostle Peter wrote; “Sanctify the Lord God in your hearts” (I Peter 3:15). Sanctify is one of those words we do not use a great deal. Simply stated sanctify means to set apart Christ as Lord or ruler of our life.” It is like saying he is now the king of the kingdom of your heart. Sometimes in the kingdom of our heart there may be a power struggle. The struggle is for who is going to be in control of our lives. It may be only a small corner at first where we assert our spiritual independence and want to answer to know one but ourselves. We may wrestle in our mind that to do so is true freedom. Is that what we really want? It seems that if that is the case and we find ourselves setting up our own kingdom, we become slaves to all of the issues that life has a way of handing us.
When you and I allow Christ to rule in our heart, we find our feet will walk in His ways. When we walk in His ways, we experience true freedom, for Christ is there to lift us up from the day to day burdens that we must face in this life. One is reminded of that tried and true passage where Paul said; “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28). To me that sounds like what true freedom is.
